What ruins a perfectly good night’s sleep? Listening to someone snore the whole night while you toss and turn, totally unable to fall asleep. You can cover your face with a pillow, but the sound will still get to you. You wake up sleepless and annoyed. Unless the person is an infrequent snorer, having a bed fellow that snores heavily can put a damper on any relationship. Sleep deprivation caused by another person’s snoring does not bode well for any relationship. Do not lose hope. Snore relief exists. There are a range of factors that contribute to snoring. Some of them include excessive alcohol drinking, excess body weight, deviated septum, chronic nasal congestion, sleep apnea, an elongated soft palate, enlarged tonsils or adenoids, among others. If you are experiencing disruptive snoring, here are some snore relief tips you can try:
If you’re overweight, lose weight. The extra weight in your throat narrows your airway, and thus makes you snore. Eat healthy and on time. Avoid eating heavily at night or having snacks at least four hours before you sleep. Eating heavily at night and having late-night snacks not only contribute to your snoring, but also to your excess weight.
Deal with chronic nasal congestion and deviated septum. If you have a deviated septum, you can undergo surgery to fix this condition. If you have chronic nasal congestion, you can inhale steam. Nasal congestion often causes snoring. Before you go to sleep, use a vaporizer or a steam inhaler to clear your nasal passages. Otherwise, use nasal strips applied to your nose. The same thing happens when you take sleeping pills and sedatives. Surgery is available to help reduce disruptive snoring. Do note that surgery isn’t the best snore relief for anyone who snores. Make sure surgery is appropriate or crucial before deciding on this course of action. Otherwise, there are other snore relief options such as dental mouthpieces and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP).
