Work…No Sweat

Posted by Matthew Johnson at 6th July, 2009

Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, can rule the lives of some of the millions of people it affects across the world. If you’re one of those people, it can dictate what you do, where you go, even which clothes you wear.

And no matter what job you do for a living, the problem can seem even worse when you are at work. Worrying about your excessive sweating can make you feel, stressed, uncomfortable and even embarrassed, if you think your colleagues and workmates have noticed your sweating.

If you work in an office, you probably have to wear a shirt and tie, a shirt thats thin and shows sweat stains easily. If you work in the warehouse, you probably have any number of manual duties that cause you to get over-heated and sweat more.

Starting to sweat get’s you stressed, which means you could sweat even more!

If you’re more worried about your sweating problem, it makes it hard to focus on what you should be doing. It can be even harder for you to be comfortable working closer to others who might notice your problem. If you suffer from excessive sweating, this might sound like every day you go to work.

Do any of these sound like the kind of thing you’ve tried just to get through work?

- wearing t-shirts under your shirt or overalls

- disappearing to the toilets to try and dry your sweat patches

- keeping your suit jacket on in the office even when its 90 degrees

- changing your shirt once, or even twice a day

- putting on more anti-perspirant throughout the day

But these just mask the issue and dont stop you worrying about it, so whilst your colleagues might not notice your excessive sweating, how much time are you spending hiding it from them that you could be spending being more effective at your job?

You probably hadn’t realised how much time you spend worrying about your problem but it can take over your whole day.

Around 62% of adults said that going to an interview, confronting the boss, and other job-related issues made them sweat more, according to a survey by the International Hyperhidrosis Society.

The IHHS also found that people who were affected by hyperhidrosis in the workplace were limited to carrying out physical duties 25% of the time, in mental and interpersonal tasks 20% of the time, in time management 17% of the time, and in work output 11% of the time.

So not only is hyperhidrosis affecting how you feel at work, its also effecting how you perform at work and the chances are you probably hadnt even noticed.

The IHHS have also commented that whilst hyperhisrosis is not recognised as a significant problem in the workplace, it can have limitations on performance similar to those experienced by workers with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and depression.

If your office is air-conditioned, or you dont have to do too much manual labour, you might be lucky and be able to cope with your excessive sweating. But imagine how much better work would be if you didnt have to worry about it at all? Imagine if you were able to cure it, naturally, and more importantly, permanently?

The IHHS work to raise awareness of the problem of excessive sweating in environments like the workplace. If you’re one of the millions of people affected there are options available to you. Further information on one of these is detailed below.

Do I need Teeth Whitening?

Posted by Jane Davies at 24th June, 2009

Your teeth are a very obvious part of your appearance. Teeth whitening facilities know about this fact, which is why they are encouraging people to whiten their teeth so that they can look their best and so that others will find their whole appearance more pleasing.

Whitening your teeth can also boost your self confidence. Did you ever noticed those people who smile a lot even to strangers? Notice how easily they radiate warmth just by smiling that Hollywood smile. Sometimes, that smile is so contagious that you find yourself smiling and feeling better for the rest of the day.

This is the reason why you have to perfect that smile so you can do it more often. One way of perfecting it is by whitening your teeth. In today’s world where beauty products and facial makeovers are rampant, you see a lot of beautiful people. What you will always remember is the colour of their teeth.

You probably think that they are very fortunate to have been born with beautiful white teeth like that, but what you do not know is that those teeth are the result of the whitening products and procedures that are available on the market today.

Over-the-counter teeth whitening products are not as expensive as they used to be. This may be because of the stiff competition out there. With so many new products appearing practically everyday, it is no wonder that the prices are going down.

Take a good look at yourself in the mirror. Are your teeth as white as they used to be? Do you feel that they could be made even whiter? Are you one of those people that would benefit from having their teeth whitened?

To answer this question, consider this:

1. Methods for teeth whitening. The methods used for teeth whitening are on a case-to-case basis. For every individual, there is a method that will suit their different requirements. You can opt for veneers instead of bleaching or teeth whitening. The best thing to do is to see your dentist first about what you should do. Your dentist will be able to tell you what will be perfect for your needs.

2. Smokers and Caffeine-Addicts. If you are one of those who like to consume caffeinated drinks, then you are probably a candidate for teeth whitening. This is the same for people who smoke a lot. The ingredients in caffeinated drinks can discolour your teeth if you have been drinking caffeine for a long time. Tar and nicotine can also discolour teeth quickly.

By having your teeth whitened or by using whitening toothpaste every day, you can reduce the effects that these ingredients will have on your teeth. Continued, regular use will definitely help delay the rapid discoloration of your teeth.

3. Sensitive teeth and gums. Your teeth and gums might not be able to tolerate the chemicals in the whitening products. If you suspect you have sensitive teeth, it is better to put off using whitening products until you have first seen your dentist.

If you have a sensitive mouth, but are still serious about having your teeth whitened, then you had better go for one of the professional treatments. Do not take the risk of trying out products that you can buy over the counter.

Once you have mulled over all these things, then you will have a better idea if you are ready for that teeth whitening procedure. When it comes to your well being, it is always better to be safe than to be sorry.

Teeth Whitening Products

Posted by Gail Jones at 23rd June, 2009

Selecting teeth whitening products from the different teeth whitening products available on the market these days can be very difficult. However, some of these teeth whitening products do not give the desired results.

If you were to ask the experts, they would tell you that the best method of teeth whitening is still obtainable via your dentist. Not only is it the best, but it is also the most effective and the quickest way to get whiter teeth.

However, not all people can afford the fees that come with each treatment. Another thing that hinders them from going to dentists is fear. It seems that in early childhood, dentists are one of the most feared professions and that children just do not want to have to meet them. This fear continues on into adult years.

Although dentists do not advise people to choose teeth whitening products, they all agree that most of these products are effective to a degree. According to many studies, most teeth whitening products can result in whiter teeth that can out perform any procedure supplled by your dentist, if applied regularly and consistently.

Another bonus that teeth whitening products have, is that they contain the same ingredients that are being used in professional whitening. Two of the active ingredients needed for whitening teeth are hydrogen peroxide and carbamide. These two products are also the ingredients that are present in some of the products that are sold in ordinary grocery shops and drug stores.

The only advantage that teeth whitening products have over professional whitening is that they are very cheap. Everyone who learns about them can afford to add them to their list of basic shopping items.

Most of these products can be bought for $30 or less. Compare this with the $100 or more that you need to pay at the dentists. It will not surprise you that people prefer them over the high fees. Still, teeth whitening products are found to have some disadvantages. Some of these are:

1. Suitability. Teeth whitening products cater to all, it is true, but then different people have different needs. What some people found effective may not work for others. This is one of the problems that people will encounter with these ‘home’ products.

Some people have sensitive teeth and gums and their reaction to these products will depend upon the suitability of the products to the people using them. Another option would be to try out different products until you find the one that is suitable to you.

2. Strong Chemicals Used. You will not know what your reaction to any given chemical will be until you have tried it out. As you do not know how sensitive your teeth are, you will also not know what will happen until you start using the product. It is better to talk with your dentist before selecting any product at all.

3. Tray may not fit. The tray put in your mouth does not exactly fit you, so there is a tendency that it may be either be too large or too small.

If it is too large, the chemicals may not work very well. On the other hand, if it is too small, it could cause gum bleeding and other side effects that could cause even bigger problems. Be sure that the teeth whitening precuts you choose are right for you. If none of them works, then perhaps professional teeth whitening would be better for you.
